Tracking
The application is designed to track details at a level of resolution that will reduce the research time and provide a simple repeatable process for peer review.

In the past, it may not have been feasible to capture the detail we need today for collecting, preparing, cataloging, and reporting of paleontological activities.  Using PaleOasys, you will be able to analyze more details.  For example: How many second molars of the left lower jaw of a diedelphadon have been found in Hell Creek, Montana in the lowest section of the Hell Creek formation?

Details

is a community-driven application for sharing research data, collaborating, high-resolution tracking, reporting, and paleontological research activities.

It integrates collection activities, lab work, curational tasks, locality details, geologic data, specimen information, GIS operations, research analyses, and multimedia into a single one-touch platform. The application design is ideal for high-resolution tracking, reporting, and analyzing of paleontological research activities. Our research group is using PaleOasys to address questions regarding biotic changes near the Cretaceous-Paleogene boundary in northeastern Montana. The system may capture data during each phase of research. The user interface uses a community driven architecture that allows many people to interact easily with each other and the system. Statistics, reports, and charts may be generated for numerous permutations or subsets of the data and may be modified quickly and easily modified.

In sum, PaleOasys uniquely combines the ability to track research and collection activities through a variety of multimedia, run quantitative analyses on subsets of the data, and generate easily modifiable reports with user-friendly community features. As such, it is ideal for use in broad collections and field-based research collaborations, such as ours based within the Hell Creek study system.

Paleontologists, geologists and all scientists at can share any or all information with colleagues or the public anytime they wish.  As a public member, you add information to the site and have it reviewed for approval of sharing and viewing.

Structure and Operations
At this time, the application is in beta release.  We are modifying design and structure as our users find better ways of functioning within the system.  We are also enhancing forms to be more user-friendly.
